Helpful Tips for Registered Participants

Thank you for joining the Lace Up for Literacy Walking fundraiser! 


Here are some helpful tips and next steps:

1. Let your friends and family know about your goal and seek out sponsors!


Here’s an example of what to say:


" I am participating in an event called Lace Up for Literacy and I have pledged to walk  _____miles from May 15 - May 31. My goal is to raise $_____.  Literacy Volunteers of Washington County is providing a way to strengthen the ties in our community while supporting adult literacy in a fun and healthy way."  Here is the link where you can donate to support my walk

2. Encourage others to join you


Family and friends can also walk, wherever they are –California, Canada, Florida, Asia, or Europe. It’s a great way to stay connected and engaged while supporting a good cause.

3. Connect with other walkers through social media


by using the hashtag #LaceUpLVWC and posting photos and content on the Literacy Volunteers of Washington County Facebook page. Please share with us great walking routes, nature photos, dog walks, new discoveries --  whatever piques your interest.

4. Use your Apps


Track your miles on your FitBit, iPhone, Android, or a pedometer. Apps like WoofTrax appeal to those who walk with their pets.

5. Make your walks interesting

You can walk anywhere you'd like during this event. Some suggested routes can be found at or
